The new 76 plate lands this September: here is what it means for you

POSTED: 13/08/2026

Twice a year, in March and September, the UK gets a fresh registration plate, and this September brings the new 76 plate. If you have been toying with the idea of a new bike, this is the moment the whole industry gears up for, and there are good reasons to start thinking about it now rather than later.

What is the 76 plate?

The two numbers in a registration plate tell you when the bike was first registered. From September 2026, new machines carry a 76. It is a simple way to see at a glance how new a bike is, and for a lot of riders that little detail matters.

Why it matters

A new plate is about more than the numbers. It usually lines up with the latest models and the newest tech arriving in showrooms, so it is the freshest the range gets. There is the obvious appeal of riding the very latest plate too, and it tends to help when it comes to resale further down the line. In short, a 76 plate bike holds its own.

Thinking of trading up? Now is the clever time

Here is the bit worth knowing. If you are planning to move your current bike on, you do not have to wait until September to start the conversation, and there is a real advantage in not doing.

Used values tend to be stronger through the summer while demand is high, so getting your part-exchange valued now can work in your favour, rather than joining the rush when everyone is trying to trade up at once in September. Start early and you give yourself time, choice and a better deal.

Part-exchange is simpler than people expect, too. You bring your bike in, we value it fairly and honestly, and it comes straight off the price of your next one. No fuss, no pressure.

Get ahead of the rush

The smart money gets its thinking done early. Come and see us, tell us what you are after, and let us give your current bike a no-obligation valuation so you are ready to go the moment the 76 plate lands.

Pop in, give us a call, or drop us a message and we will get you sorted.
