September has a way of snapping everyone back into routine, and for a lot of us that means the daily commute. If you have spent the summer sitting in traffic watching riders filter past, this might be the nudge you needed. Swapping four wheels for two can cut your journey time, ease the strain on your fuel and parking costs, and turn the dullest part of your day into something you actually look forward to.
Here are five Honda commuters we would happily recommend, whatever your budget and however far you travel.
1. Honda NC750X: the do-it-all commuter
If your commute involves a proper stretch of road, the NC750X is a brilliant all-rounder. Comfortable and stable enough for the motorway yet easy in town, it is famously frugal, and it has a genuinely clever party trick: a lockable storage compartment where the fuel tank would normally sit, big enough to swallow a full-face helmet. You can even have it with Honda's DCT automatic gearbox if you would rather not bother with a clutch in stop-start traffic. Ideal for anyone covering 20 miles or more each day.
2. Honda Forza 350: comfort is king
If you want to arrive relaxed and dry, the Forza 350 is hard to beat. A proper premium scooter with an electrically adjustable screen, generous under-seat storage that swallows a helmet and more, and fuss-free twist-and-go riding. The weather protection is superb, which makes it a lovely place to sit out a grey morning, and it is just as happy on faster roads as it is in town.
3. Honda PCX125: the economical favourite
One of the UK's most popular scooters, and for good reason. The PCX125 is light, easy to filter through traffic, keyless, and comes with a smart display and smartphone connectivity. Best of all, the running costs are tiny, with fuel economy that will make your old car weep. A brilliant first commuter and an absolute doddle to live with.
4. Honda CB500 Hornet: for the manual purist
Prefer a proper motorbike with gears? The CB500 Hornet is a cracker. A smooth, punchy twin-cylinder engine, an upright and comfortable riding position and agile handling make it a joy on the daily run, while sensible servicing and insurance keep the costs down. All the fun of a manual bike with none of the drama.
5. Going electric: the Honda CUV e:
Now, we know some of you will raise an eyebrow at this one, so hear us out. For city commuting, electric genuinely makes a lot of sense. The Honda CUV e: runs on two swappable Honda Mobile Power Pack batteries you can charge at home or work, it has next to no maintenance to worry about (no oil changes, no clutch), and little touches like the reverse assist make parking a breeze. Add a clear display with smartphone connectivity and quiet, smooth acceleration, and it is a genuinely lovely way to get across town. Best suited to mainly city and town commutes, where its range is spot on and the running costs are pennies.
You do not have to love the idea of electric to see the appeal of cheap, quiet, fuss-free miles.
